01 / THE PLACES YOU’VE BEEN

A pin for every memory.

Search for a city. Mark it visited and add a year if you like. Every little place is part of your story.

02 / THE PLACES YOU’LL GO

Keep a little daydream.

Save cities to your wishlist. Olive stars keep the someday places separate from the been-there ones.

03 / A WORLD TO SHARE

Make it a keepsake.

Turn your map into a Story, a short video, or an HTML map to keep. Choose what to include before sharing.

LESS COUNTING. MORE REMEMBERING.

A little world.
A lot of stories.

That first solo trip. The city you stayed in longer than planned. The place you keep dreaming about. Put them all somewhere you can come back to.

Your pins stay on this device. Download a backup to keep them safe, or an HTML map for a copy you can open offline.

How your map works

WHERE DOES YOUR STORY BEGIN?

Start with a corner of the world.

Same personal map. A closer starting view, useful city ideas and guides for what comes next.

GOOD TO KNOW

Your map.
Your rules.

Is this travel map really free?

Yes. Pin visited and wishlist cities, switch map styles, and export without a subscription or login. This is a website tool; it is not part of the SoloSquare iOS or Android apps.

Where is my travel map saved?

Your map is saved in this browser on this device, when browser storage is available. It is not attached to a SoloSquare account or synced to another device. Clearing browser data, private browsing or storage limits can remove it. Download a JSON backup and use Import to restore it. Storage failures are shown in the editor.

Can I mark both visited and wishlist cities?

Yes. Coral pin shapes mark visited cities; olive stars mark your wishlist in the Atlas style. Each city has one state, which you can change in its details. Only visited cities count toward visited-country totals. Year visited is optional; this tool does not record individual repeat trips.

Can I share it as an Instagram Story or Reel?

Choose Map poster, Travel portrait, Passport, Highlights or Compass in the share studio. Download a 1080 × 1920 Story, 1080 × 1350 portrait or 1080 × 1080 square PNG. Supported browsers can create a silent 7.5-second vertical video in the same design; the format is MP4 or WebM. Some social apps need MP4, so a WebM may need conversion. You can also share a map link or a self-contained HTML file. The tool does not publish to social accounts.

Can I choose a dotted map or add my own photo?

Yes. Combine pins, dotted geography or highlighted countries with five color palettes. Fit the included cities or show the whole world, add city labels, or focus on one country. Travel portrait lets you add a cover photo that stays in this browser tab. It appears only in image, video and HTML downloads; it is never uploaded, saved to your account or included in a map link.

Does my shared map link expire or use a database record?

There is no automatic expiration. The link carries a snapshot in the part after #map=; copying it does not create a database record. It continues to need a working SoloSquare website and compatible city catalog. Keep an HTML copy for offline viewing or a JSON backup for restoring your map. A link is not private: anyone receiving it can read the included cities.

Does a shared link expose my wishlist?

Only if you choose Include my wishlist in the share preview. A link or file includes the selected city snapshot and its optional visit years. Anyone receiving it can view or forward it. Opening a friend's link previews their map without replacing yours; adding their cities requires an explicit action. Sharing is not a private access-controlled account.

Which cities can I pin?

Search a local catalog of cities and selected towns, based on GeoNames cities15000 and SoloSquare guide destinations. It covers major cities worldwide but not every village, neighborhood or landmark. Check the region and country to distinguish cities with the same name. Maps hold up to 1,000 city pins; large maps may need HTML or JSON instead of a message link.

How are countries counted?

We count the distinct country or territory codes attached to visited cities. A wishlist city never increases this total. These are self-reported places, not a verified travel score or a list of sovereign states. Outlines are generalized and do not imply a position on boundaries.
