Getting around Barcelona
How to get around Barcelona
Metro, buses and trams run on one integrated fare system and cover most of the city; walking and taxis fill the gaps. The T-casual 10-ride card is the best value.
Ways to get around Barcelona
| Option | Fare | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Metro (TMB) | About 2.55–2.65 EUR single; T-casual 10 rides about 12 EUR | Runs late on Fridays and all night on Saturdays |
| Bus and night bus (NitBus) | Same fare as metro | Night buses cover the gap after the metro closes |

| FGC and Rodalies trains | Zone fares from about 2.5 EUR | For Sitges, Montserrat and the airport |

A 5 km ride costs about €8–15 ($9.0–16.9).
| App | Notes |
|---|---|
| Cabify | Operates widely; fares shown in advance |
| Uber | Cars and some taxis; reliable at the airport |
| FREENOW | Books licensed taxis; meters apply |
| Bolt | Often cheaper than Uber; fewer drivers late at night |
- Official black-and-yellow taxis are metered and safe; hail them or use FREENOW. Avoid unmarked cars offering rides at the airport.
Arriving in Barcelona
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat (BCN)
Aerobús about 7 EUR, 35 min to Plaça Catalunya; metro L9 Sud with airport supplement about 5–6 EUR, 35–45 min; taxi about 35–45 EUR.
Driving and onward travel
- Scooters: Scooter rental is popular but parking is tight and police fine riders without a licence or helmet; metro and walking are easier.
- Driving: on the right. Non-EU visitors may drive six months on their licence; most, including US licence holders, also need an IDP.
- Onward travel in Spain: High-speed trains from Renfe, Iryo and Ouigo link Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Málaga, and competition keeps fares low. ALSA buses reach almost everywhere else.
