Capital city, Kyrgyzstan
Bishkek
Affordable, green Soviet-grid capital and the usual base for Kyrgyz trekking, yurt stays and Issyk-Kul. Cafés and nomad life are good; air in winter, traffic and uneven pavements are weaker points.

Visa and entry
- Many nationalities are visa-free; others use the e-Visa at evisa.e-gov.kg and must enter via listed airports or border posts.
- Border-zone permits are needed near China, e.g. Inylchek and Khan Tengri; trekking agencies arrange them.
- Kyrgyz–Tajik land crossings were long closed after the 2021–22 clashes; check their status before planning overland routes.
