City in Liguria, Italy
Genoa
Italy's biggest historic port: a maze of medieval alleys, grand palaces, focaccia and pesto, with cliffside access to Cinque Terre. Gritty and steep, cheaper than Milan or Florence; some alleys feel rough at night.
